Standard
The standard with which Michigan Virtual courses need to comply.
For Plus courses, summative assessments come at the end of a lesson, after the student has gone through a lesson and engaged in formative assessments. Every objective should be assessed by a summative assessment.

Requirements
What exactly do course developers need to include in order to comply with this standard?
While formative assessments measure students’ learning as they go, summative assessments are used to measure whether a student has met a stated learning objective. Summative assessments are graded assignments such as tests, quizzes*, projects, written assignments, or anything that is turned in for a grade with no opportunity to revise and resubmit.
Summative assessments come at the end of a lesson, after the student has gone through a lesson and engaged in formative assessments. Lessons should contain at least one summative assessment for every objective. *Please note that quizzes should have four answer options unless an exception is requested and approved. |
Implementation
How can course developers implement this standard? What is the process for doing so?
The course map, scope and sequence, and the alignment chart will show that each learning objective has a summative assessment. The summative assessment should match the verb in the learning objective. Please see the Style Guide: Alignment for more guidance. |
