iPD’s Guide for Course Design & Development

Recommended Content Types

Standard

The standard with which Michigan Virtual courses need to comply.

For courses that are built in CourseArc, always use the CourseArc version of a content type if available (ie. use a CourseArc accordion rather than an H5P accordion) unless the H5P version offers relevant features that are not available in CourseArc. When an H5P is used it will be from the H5Ps content type recommendations page.

Requirements

What exactly do course developers need to include in order to comply with this standard?

Before creating an H5P, check H5Ps content type recommendations page and only use content types that:

  • Are accessible
  • Are maintained by the core team
    • (Essay is the only exception)
  • Have full browser support
  • Are scorable, if required. See H5P Scoring Overview

Implementation

How can course developers implement this standard? What is the process for doing so?

  1. Log into Michigan Virtual’s H5P platform.
  2. Create the recommended H5P based on the above requirements
  3. Follow standards for
    1. File Structure
    2. Settings for CourseArc
    3. Settings for Brightspace LTI
