When creating quizzes in Brightspace, use the following settings. The quiz creation screen can be accessed from the Lessons area or from the Quiz menu (accessed from the Course Activities menu).
You may find a quiz template within your DEV shell in the Quiz menu. If present, this template can be copied by selecting the downward facing arrow next to its title and then selecting copy. This template will have some of the following settings enabled already (though it’s still important to verify them).

- Grade Out Of

- Select “Edit or Link to Existing.”
- If the grade item has already been created in the grade book, select “Link to an existing grade item” and select the appropriate grade item.

- The title of the grade item will match the title given to the quiz.

- Do not copy hard-coded font stylings from other word processors (e.g., Microsoft Word, Google Docs) or from other sources (e.g., webpages) without stripping the fonts via Paste Special (Ctrl+Shift+V) or by first pasting it into a text editor (e.g., NotePad), or by pasting it directly into the full html editor </> in Brightspace and then using the Brightspace HTML editor menu to reformat the text.
- Note: You do not need to include anything about timing or number of submissions as BS automatically inserts this information based on the settings.
- Add the question pools to the quiz by the Create New button.
- Create New > Question Pool > Title the Pool, insert the number of questions to select, and how many points per question.
- Select Browse Question Library and select the corresponding questions for the pool and then insert. Save, then select Back to Settings.

- Written Response (WR) – i.e., Long Answer in the Brightspace database
- Short Answer (SA)
- Fill in the Blanks (FIB)
- It should also be considered whether Multi-Short Answer (MSA) should be sent to Quick Eval for instructor review before publishing grades to the gradebook.
- *Note: SA, FIB, MSA will still be autoscored by Brightspace when this box is unchecked, however the scores will not appear in the gradebook until the instructor reviews and publishes them from Quick Eval
- Synchronize to gradebook on publish = Yes
- Always check the 2nd checkbox, regardless of whether the first checkbox is left checked or unchecked
- When published, display to learners:
