Video Attribution

Standard

The standard with which Michigan Virtual courses need to comply. 

An appropriate attribution must accompany all videos.

Specific Review Standard 4.5 C: The course models the academic integrity expected of learners by providing both source references and permissions for use of instructional materials. 

 

Requirements 

What exactly do course developers need to include in order to comply with this standard? 

Attribution Requirements 

All videos must have an attribution. In order to comply with this standard, all video attributions must include the following:

  1. Author: Who created the source material?
  2. Date of publication
  3. Title: What is the name of the work? 
    1. If the title is not provided, you can just call it “video”
  4. Source/website host: Where can others find this work?
  5. URL of video: provide the link to the video.

Video attributions must be in APA format.

Image attributions should be placed below the video using the custom attribution. Please refer to the Video Attribution Boilerplate

 

Implementation 

How can course developers implement this standard? What is the process for doing so?

In one line, include the following, in the order outlined below.

  1. Person or group who uploaded video.
  2. (Date of publication).
  3. Title of video [Video].
  4. Website host.
  5. URL (the link should be selectable)

Example:

Tasty. (2018, March 7). 7 recipes you can make in 5 minutes [Video]. Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_5wHw6l11o
