Unit Checklists

Standard

The standard with which Michigan Virtual courses need to comply.

Plus courses will include a unit checklist that provides all graded assessment names, points, and aligned objectives.

Alignment

Quality Matters

3.1 C The types of assessments in the course measure the stated learning objectives or competencies, are consistent with learning activities and resources, and their relationship with learning objectives or competencies is clearly stated.

Requirements

What exactly do course developers need to include in order to comply with this standard?

SLS courses will have Unit Checklists in Brightspace using the “unit checklist” activity. Each checklist will be titled “Unit X Checklist.” Within the checklist, the category will be titled “Unit X Assignments.” Within each category, the items will be called “X.X X: Title.”

The number of points and the objectives the assignment aligns with will be included in each item description.

Implementation

How can course developers implement this standard? What is the process for doing so?

In the course dev shell, the unit checklists are the first item under each unit module in Brightspace.

  1. Find the Unit Checklist and select “open checklist.”
  2. Change the “X” in the “Unit X Assignments” to the correct unit number. No description is required.
  3. Change the name of the assignment from “X.X X: Title” to the correct unit number and insert the correct type and title of the assignment.
  4. Under the description, update the points to the correct number of points. Please use the course spread document to help with this located in the project folder in Google Drive.
    1. The points should be formatted as: XX Points [Style: paragraph, size 19, #135e6f]
  5. Under the description, add the objectives that are being assessed with the assignment. Please use the alignment document to help with this located in the project folder in Google Drive.
    1. Objectives should be formatted as: Objectives [Style: paragraph, size 19, #202122]
    2. Objectives should be in a bulleted list and capitalized
  6. Repeat this for all assignments learners need to complete. Please make sure they are in the order in which they appear.
