Resources

Standard

The standard with which Michigan Virtual courses need to comply.

Include resources (documents and external links) that are easy to access and accessible for all learners.

Requirements

What exactly do course developers need to include in order to comply with this standard?

Access to resources

  • Free of cost: All course resources must be free of cost for learners
  • No account required: All course resources must be available to learners without requiring them to create an account.

Accessibility of resources

  • Resources that learners are required to view or that contain content learners are required to have in order to pass the course must meet all WCAG 2.0 AA accessibility standards.
  • All links to resources must comply with the hyperlinks standard.

Directions for resources

  • Directions must explicitly state when viewing a resource or its content is required for course completion.

Delivering resources

  • Resource list: Learners must be provided with a list of all course resources that can be saved for future use.
  • Single link use: If a resource is mentioned multiple times on a page, link to it only once via a single callout button.
  • Organizing multiple resources: If many resources are referenced on a single page, link out to them via a list.

Implementation

How can course developers implement this standard? What is the process for doing so?

  1. Ensure that all resources are free of cost, do not require an account, and meet the accessibility of external resources standard.
  2. Write directions that explicitly state when viewing a resource or the content within the resources is required for course completion.
  3. Link to the resources at appropriate places within the course.
  4. Create a list of all course resources that learners can save for future use.
