Standard
The standard with which Michigan Virtual courses need to comply.
Assessments must align with the listed standards and objectives.
An initial step in authoring alignment documents is to confirm that the standards set is the most current version, has been adopted by MDE to fulfill grade level or graduation credit requirements and/or meets legislative requirements for online course syllabi under the state school aid act. The above criteria can be confirmed by the Director of Curriculum. Note: Michigan Virtual Enrichment and Professional Learning courses are not submitted to Quality Matters for certification. However, iPD design best practice includes ensuring alignment between Learning Objectives and assessments that follow this standard. Requirements
What exactly do course developers need to include in order to comply with this standard?
Create an Alignment Document that includes applicable state standards, learning objectives, lesson title, and assessments. A reviewer should be able to see which learning objectives align with which assessments. Applicable standards should be included at the unit level (no need to include applicable standards at the lesson level).
Michigan Virtual Plus courses should use the alignment document found in the course development template gallery. PLS and MVLRI courses should have some kind of documentation for alignment. |
Implementation
How can course developers implement this standard? What is the process for doing so?
First, ensure learning objective and assessment alignment at the Course Map stage. During or after the Develop stage, use the iPD provided Alignment Document template to document course alignment. This document will be included in submission materials to Quality Matters (if the course needs QM certification).
The Alignment Document should be included in the Google Project Folder under 4. Deploy Documents. If the document is missing in can be found in the Google template gallery: Select “New”
