Standard
The standard with which Michigan Virtual courses need to comply.
Teacher-graded assessments need to include scoring rubrics. Rubrics should be attached to the assignment for grading purposes and available for students to review before assignment submission.
AlignmentQuality Matters3.2 C Specific and descriptive criteria are provided for the evaluation of learners’ work and assist the instructor in determining the level of achievement of learning objectives and competencies. |
Requirements
What exactly do course developers need to include in order to comply with this standard?
Every teacher graded assignment should have an associated rubric. Rubrics can be created from Template or from scratch in the Rubric tool. |
Implementation
How can course developers implement this standard? What is the process for doing so?
Type: Analytic Scoring Method: Custom Points Rubric Title Use the same name as the assignment/discussion and grade item with “Rubric” at the end Grade Columns Check the number and names of rubric columns. Michigan Virtual created rubrics require four performance levels, with columns labeled as
Scores Edit the rubric to match the number of points corresponding to the associated assignment or discussion and respective grade items. Total points on rubric, assignment/discussion, and grade item should match. Within each criterion (row in the rubric), the points should equate to the following scale: Excellent = 100%; Acceptable = 80%; Needs Improvement = 60%; and Incomplete = 0% E.g., a rubric criterion row worth 3 possible total points would have the following values in the four cells of that row of the rubric table: Excellent = 3, Acceptable = 2.4, Needs Improvement = 1.8, Incomplete = 0. E.g., a rubric criterion row worth 10 points, would have the following values in the four cells: 10, 8, 6, 0. Overall Score Check the overall score columns at the very bottom of the rubric are titled and points are matched above the same as well, they should be equal to these percentages. Excellent = 90%, Acceptable= 80%, Needs Improvement = 60%, Incomplete = 0%. E.g., a rubric worth a total of 12 possible points (3 points for Criterion 1, 6 points for Criterion 2, and 3 points for Criterion 3 = Total –/12) would have an Overall Score breakdown as follows. Excellent = 10.8, Acceptable = 9.6, Needs Improvement = 7.2, Incomplete = 0. After a rubric is created in the Rubrics tool, it must be selected in the Assignment or Discussion settings.
