Importing Graded/Ungraded H5P Activities into Brightspace

Standard

The standard with which Michigan Virtual courses need to comply.

Importing H5P activities into Brightspace must comply with the following standards:

  • WCAG 2.1 Level AA guidelines for accessibility, ensuring all activities are perceivable, operable, understandable, and robust.
  • Adherence to Michigan Virtual’s content integration and instructional design principles.
  • Clear differentiation and proper categorization of graded and ungraded activities within the Brightspace course structure.
  • Consistent use of metadata and descriptions for H5P activities to enhance discoverability and user experience.

Requirements

What exactly do course developers need to include in order to comply with this standard?

  • Ensure all H5P activities meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA accessibility standards, including keyboard navigability and screen reader compatibility.
  • Create or place the H5P activity in the correct Michigan Virtual account course folder in H5P.
    • Be sure it is shareable with all MV members.
  • Clearly label H5P activities as graded or ungraded and place them in the appropriate sections of the Brightspace course.
  • Be sure to remind the learner within the directions for the activity and in the course introduction which items are going to be graded or used to show completion of the course.
  • Provide detailed descriptions and metadata for each H5P activity to facilitate easy identification and use.
  • Ensure proper integration with Brightspace’s grade book for graded activities to automatically sync scores.
    • Be sure the names are consistent and the same between platforms.
  • Feedback must be provided either within the H5P activity or in the Brightspace platform when the activity is submitted/completed.

Implementation

How can course developers implement this standard? What is the process for doing so?

  1. Accessibility Compliance: Use H5P’s accessibility checker and additional tools to verify that all activities comply with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards.
  2. Categorization: Label each H5P activity as graded or ungraded in its title and description, and organize them accordingly within the Brightspace course modules.
  3. Metadata and Descriptions: Add comprehensive descriptions and relevant metadata to each H5P activity during the upload process in Brightspace.
  4. Course Requirements: Tell learners in the course introduction and activity directions which items will be graded or used to show completion of the course.
  5. Gradebook Integration: For graded activities, ensure proper linkage to the Brightspace gradebook by following the integration steps outlined in the Brightspace guide.
